Inside this workshop

Do you have a brickwall you want to break through? Do you want to get ideas from others on how to break down brickwalls? Or do you enjoy helping others break down brickwalls?  If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then this is the workshop for you.

During the workshop, we will work through a number of English brickwall challenges. Participants will be split into smaller groups to allow you to work collaboratively.

We are asking participants to submit brickwalls in advance (see below) so we can select the ones that give the best learning opportunities for all. Janet Few and Mia Bennett will be moving between the groups to help facilitate the discussions. At the end we will all come together to see how much progress has been made on each brickwall.

If you would like to submit a brickwall, please provide the following information:

  • Simple question summarising brickwall – e.g. Who were the parents of xx?; Where is xx buried?, Where was xx between 1851 and 1881?
  • What do you already know
  • Where have you already looked
  • Are there any obvious records that you have eliminated
  • Any other information pertinent to the brickwall

The summary should not be more than 350 words. The brickwall should be based in England. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that all submitted brickwalls will be used.  Please submit brickwalls to research@miagenealogy.com by 6pm AEST Monday 19 July. If you want further information, please contact Mia on this email.

The workshop will run for about 90 minutes. It will be followed by a Q&A session of up to 30 minutes. The introduction and Q&A will be recorded and made available for attendees to review afterward. The breakout groups will not be recorded.
